RSCON4 Presentation on Saturday, Oct 12 at 3pm Chicago Time (GMT-5)

  Engaging assignment that allows students to showcase their personal beliefs in a creative format while using a variety of technological tools.

 

  The This I Believe Narrative with Technology component assignment is a three part project/unit. The project has some formative and some summative aspects for teachers following the common core state standards.

     Step 1: Students read/listened to a variety of This I Believe narratives on the NPR website. http://thisibelieve.org/themes/ Students Summarized, Analyzed, Synthesized, and Evaluated the various essays to practice their writing and discussion skills.

     Step 2: Students wrote their own personal This I Believe statements that had to be between 350 and 600 words. We posted them on a shared school site, so students could peer edit the narratives.  Students then used the peer edit comments to revise and finalize their This I Believe narratives.

     Step 3: Students created multi-media video presentations utilizing a program of their choice (screencast-o-matic, moviemaker, PowerPoint, snacktools.com, flipcameras, and others) to visual showcase their narratives.

I'm an English Teacher at Joliet West High School. It is my 11th year as an educator. I'm bilingual; I was born in Poland and moved to the US when I was 7 years old, so I speak Polish as well as English. This is my first year with 1-to-1 Technology so I'm still learning.
