Teaching technique – teach them how to learn part 2

Teaching technique – teach them how to learn part 2When my students entered the classroom (the first day of classes) I told them,”welcome to biology class”. I quickly inform them that they will learn biology (Failure was not an option). I explained that the focus of the class would be how to learn. I explained that it would be as if I am teaching you how to drive a car. The car is biology. The car is not important-How to drive is important. I am going to teach you how to learn. I am going to…See More

Teaching technique – teach them how to learn part 2

When my students entered the classroom (the first day of classes) I told them,”welcome to biology class”. I quickly inform them that they will learn biology (Failure was not an option). I explained that the focus of the class would be how to learn. I explained that it would be as if I am teaching you how to drive a car. The car is biology. TEACHING TECHNIQUE -WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?

I did a workshop for teachers recently. I asked a question of the teachers. The question was “who do you work for?”

Some teachers replied by naming the principal of the school. Other teachers replied by shouting out the name of the school. Still other teaches replied by saying “the board of education”.

I asked that the teachers think for a minute. I asked that they think how they happen to be in the field of education. I asked was it… Continue

Improving your teaching Technique

If you are having less than desired success, do not place the blame on the students, or on the times. If you are having less than desired successes “do something different”.

What do you do? Here is one suggestion that may give you greater success with this generation of students.

A simple suggestion that must be initiated with care is the recommended idea.

Ask them (the students) how you can better serve them. Do…

EDUCATION IN TROUBLE

The move is on to create a four day school week. The idea is to increase the school day by one hour and reduce the number of days to four in an effort to save money and reduce more damaging cost cutting measures.

BAD IDEA.

Many parents in effect use school as a baby sitting measure. They have to work. Now if you do not have school on a Monday or Friday what will happen? Parents who work and can’t afford a daytime baby…

"The depth of your observations from last night is still resonating with me. I'm trying to think of another interview I've given where the questioner understood the material so well that he/she so regularly (and fluidly) went into new intellectual territory. I can't think of any. Pretty amazing. Thank you."
