Language in Which You Will Present: English

Target Audience(s): classroom teachers and leaders in schools

Short Session Description (one line):

A session on the importance of SEL (social emotional learning) in schools.

Full Session Description (as long as you would like):

There is a global mental health emergency. Too many children reach adolescence without the social emotional intelligence to support them through the most turbulent stage of their development into adulthood. Too many are choosing death. As teachers and leaders of schools we have the power and responsibility to take action. Prevention and early intervention is not just for the medical professionals. We are on the front-line; we need to fully understand and embrace the concept that the mental health of our students takes priority over the traditional numeracy and literacy lessons. I will share my journey to this realisation, present to you my goals for the future and explain why you should join me in my quest.

Hi Fiona,

Totally love this topic. I agree that explicit teaching of social emotional skills are needed in our classrooms. I am excited to learn about your ideas!!
Cheers!
