Advance organizers have been identified as a mental construct which allows the mind to connect old and new information, to mobilize what is known in order to interpret and or retain new and old information and knowledge.

In this short presentation, I would like to showcase their value for a variety of skills and language systems lessons using some excellent online tools and apps under the broad umbrella of graphics organizers plus more which serve similar functions.

These tools allow the teacher to act as a scaffold builder rather than a source of knowledge and for the learners to take on a more active role while acquiring the language. 

Graphics organizers are amongst the first tools that come first to mind, but there are many more which can function as cues (or prompts) which activate schematic/systemic/contextual knowledge, stimulate guesswork and prediction and motivate and engage.
