I received his BA in English/Writing from George Mason University and his PhD in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics from University of Maryland, College Park. A professional career in the herbal supplement industry included positions as managing partner of Cash Grocer Natural Foods, as a clinical herbalist in Alexandria, VA, and as an academic research focused on the chemical ecology of medicinally plants. I have taught biology at the University of Maryland and Montgomery College, where I currently teaches. I also created a science education/writing blog, www.bardocalculus.com. He is fascinated by the "space-in-between", as a scientists exploring the gaps of knowledge between the disciplines of botany, chemistry and ecology; as a poet focusing on the joy of language in naming experiences that have no name; and as a teacher collaborating with my students in uncovering how they can develop into life-time learners.
